A Winter Encounter
In the middle of a Massachusetts winter, a simple lunch stop became the beginning of a transformed life.
Jason, a church planter from The Gathering, wasn’t planning on meeting someone like Adam that day. But as he stood in line at a burrito place with a friend, they noticed Adam—visibly angry, with a hard expression and a telling tattoo on his forearm that read: “Nobody cares. Work Harder.”
A Challenging Message
They struck up a conversation. Jason and his friend gently challenged that message, sharing that someone does care—they cared, and more importantly, Jesus cares. Adam didn’t respond. He seemed agitated and quickly walked away.
But the Holy Spirit was at work.
A Heart Begins to Soften
A few minutes later, as they were eating, Adam returned. Something had stirred in him, and he felt compelled to share more of his story. He opened up about recent struggles, his decision to walk away from his faith, and his choice to identify as an atheist. Yet something in what Jason had said pierced through the walls he’d built.
Jason offered to pray for him and invited him to talk more.
A Visible Transformation
That was February.
By April, Adam no longer looked like the same man. His anger was giving way to peace. His appearance changed—not because someone told him to, but because he felt the Lord prompting him to let go of things, even his piercings.
On Palm Sunday, Adam was baptized.
A Life Made New
He’s now surrounded by a loving church community and soaking up every opportunity for discipleship and friendship. He’s often the first to ask for prayer, and the transformation isn’t just internal—those around him can see it. He’s finding victory over anxiety and breaking free from old habits.
